“The help Dan has given me this year with a custom training program and general advice has been invaluable. Without it I know I wouldn’t go into races feeling nearly as strong or confident as I do, and he’s always willing to offer support when you need it. Throughout this season I’ve been very impressed with the level of detail put into the plans, and it’s nice to work with someone who cares so much about each of his athlete’s individual goals.”
“The time, effort and interest Dan puts into my riding is amazing. I’m really excited to start working with Dan to achieve my goals. My only regret is that I didn’t join Mountain Goat Coaching sooner!”
“Dan is a very supportive coach who tailors training and support to every individual rider. This has helped me improve all aspects of my cycling including both my fitness and perspective of training and racing as Dan helps you improve your cycling abilities both on and off the bike. This has had a positive effect on my enjoyment of the sport and my results in races.”
“I’ve never felt as fit and as strong as I do at the moment, and my attitude and confidence when I turn up at a race has been absolutely transformed.. I now expect to do well, rather than hope that I might do OK.. a big difference, and one that I can confidently attribute to the last month of coaching from yourself”
“Dan is a fantastic coach and person, with years of experience of coaching athletes at different levels. My cycling performance and psychological mindset has improved significantly over the period Dan has been coaching me. Dan is committed to helping his athletes achieve their goals.”
“I’ve always wondered what I could achieve with some proper coaching and some might say at 58 years old I’ve left it too late. Well, through Mountain Goat Coaching I’ve made a significant improvement 11.5% in six months. I now consider myself a racer not just a rider taking part. I’m out performing what I thought was achievable in such a short time. Nothing comes easy though, I’ve never trained as hard in my life.”
“The last few seasons that I have spent with Dan have been by far the most enjoyable, and also my most successful. None of this would have been possible without the incredible level of support that Dan offers, when training and at events. His assertiveness has lead to preventing me from overtraining and injury, as Dan quickly identifies problems and offers solutions. Dan is very approachable and as such we quickly developed a close rider-coach relationship so I feel comfortable to contact him at anytime.”
“We asked Dan to coach our daughter as we as parents didn’t have the knowledge or expertise to give. Dan has spent time getting to know Alex and us as a family. This is so important and probably the key to Alex being able to achieve her goals. Dan is truly dedicated to coaching. We are constantly impressed by the the time, thought and effort that is put in to coaching Alex.”

"Dan has been coaching me since 2012. I give him details of my races and my available time for training and he writes me a tailor made plan. I do monthly tests to see my progress and have made massive improvements in areas which were my weaknesses. As well as the training he gives advice on nutrition, recovery and rest. When he is available he also comes along and supports me at races which helps him to understand what I need to do to improve on my results. He is friendly approachable and knowledgeable."
"Dan did me a fitting on a new road bike last year and i have recently returned to get a new mountain bike setup correctly. In both instances he was very knowledgeable and explained everything really clearly. I would highly recommend Dan to anyone thinking about getting a bike fit or who wants to improve their cycling. My mountain bike feels like a completely different bike now its setup correctly! Many thanks Dan!"
"My husband and I both had a bike fitting session with Dan and it was great.
He was thorough, knowledgable and explained everything really clearly. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to improve their cycling ability and enjoyment of the sport".
“Thanks to Dan for a brilliant bike fit this year. Made all the difference to any aches and pains that I previously experienced when cycling. Can't believe how much better I am now - Many, many thanks Dan!”
"I went to see Dan with a couple of issues of the fit of my bike. After a few weeks of riding things were greatly improved! Thanks Dan! Will be sending my husband along with his new bike!"
"My wife couldn't cycle more than 2 miles without terrible pain in her knees. A couple of hours later she has a bike that fits, a riding style that works and a programme that is already paying off ."
"Many Thanks for the bike fit Dan. It's had a positive impact immediately. Your observations, analysis, adjustments and advice made perfect sense."

“I first met Dan when he was offering test sessions through the Teesdale Cycling Club in Barnard Castle. Seemed like a good idea a day before my 45th birthday. Dan took me through my first ever FTP test, and provided a useful commentary on where I was at fitness wise (not very) and my pedalling stroke (unique). All good.
Moving forward to the New Year, the FTP test experience made me think about my fitness in general and how (at the age of 45) I could make the most of the limited time I have available, in between family and a pretty busy job. I turned to Dan who, once I had decided upon some specific goals for 2016, has worked with me to provide a structured training programme, with the general aim of providing maximum impact for a relatively limited amount of time. To date, this has involved a wide range of different sessions on the turbo trainer. In the past I’ve always wondered what to do / got bored pretty quickly on a trainer but with Dan’s input these sessions are anything but boring, and the feedback from the sessions is immensely motivational.
After 4 weeks, I find myself fitter, happier at work and less overweight, but still am getting used to being called an ‘athlete’! To sum up, coaching can benefit a huge spectrum of individuals, from busy family men like myself to full time athletes. If you don’t think coaching is for you, think again!….”
“I had to "unlearn" 30 years’ worth of cycling in order to learn a big lesson today! Genius Dan Small, if you want to learn something about someone else, read stuff, if you want to learn something about yourself, get a good coach!”
